A check of Clifty Pond this evening turned up 4 Spotted Sandpipers. At least 3
were young birds with buffy/tannish edging on the wing coverts and at least one
bird had fluffy downy looking feathers sticking out the back of its head with
fluffy looking neck feathers. They had some odd looking long tail feathers.
Would juvs. be migrating this early or would they more likely have hatched
locally?
1 Henslow's Sparrow and several Grasshopper Sparrows on the neighbors farm.
A Killdeer is brooding the third clutch at the end of our lane; I'm not sure if
its the same Killdeer. This one has 3 eggs.
The young Coopers Hawks that hatched in our woods are all flying now; but at
least one needs a little work on its landing skills! There are at least 4 of
them.
