[birdky] Lake Cumberland

I was able to get out on the "mudflats" of Fishing Creek (Lake Cumberland) for a couple of hours yesterday and today. The dry lake bed is quickly becoming covered in vegetation. Indigo Buntings, Common Yellowthroats, Song Sparrows and Red-winged Blackbirds have wasted no time taking advantage of the new habitat. Prothonotary Warblers are still singing in the area despite their nesting areas being a LONG way from water, now, and only a creek where a lake used to be.

The most unusual thing I saw was a Solitary Sandpiper. I think it may have been unable to fly, as one wing looked a little drooped.

Birding smiles . . . . .
