Sorry for the late report.
5 parties with 7 observers tallied 125 species and 3,764 individual birds.
Highlights
Shorebirds were the big story, with the addition of Melco as a covered site
and a nice flock dropping in at the Falls of the Ohio. Ruddy turnstone (MA)
at the Falls and the continued presence of a willet at Melco (BY, MY, MS)
were the best finds, with unusually high counts for many species.
Flycatchers were also better represented than usual, with olive-sided
flycatcher and 2 alder flycatchers at Caperton (BY, MY), willow flycatcher
apparently nesting at Melco (BY, MY, MS), 5 Acadian flycatchers, (MW, AL,
MA), and higher-than-average counts for most of the other flycatcher
species.
Other notable reports include: hooded merganser with young at Caperton (BY,
MY), herring gull (MA) and 2 Caspian terns (MA, BY, MY) at the Falls, and
mourning warbler (BW).
Other higher-than-usual counts: 12 hairy woodpeckers, 950 Am. robins.
23 warbler species were reported, which is low. Lower-than-usual warbler
counts included Tennessee, Nashville, and yellow-rumped.
Other lower-than-usual counts: Am. crow, cedar waxwing, and scarlet tanager
(no scarlet tanagers reported).
Thanks to all the participants for their help.
