I just got a call from Sharon Ross at the Gillis Building on University
Drive at U.K. in Lexington.  Apparently there's an immature red-tail hawk
who's just left the nest and is sitting in a flower box in front of the
building.  The nest is in a nearby tree and there's another fledgling inside
the nest.  Sharon said the young hawks does not seem to want to move and
people have been walking by for hours, taking pictures of it.  She says one
of its claws looks "funny", maybe injured (?), although when I questioned
her further there does not appear to be any blood, just that it's out at a
funny angle.  Doesn't seem like a hurt claw would be enough to be
life-threatening.  I'd be more concerned that the momma might stay away if
people keep coming around to photograph the hawk.

By the way, years ago I remember a woman in Lexington who was a raptor
rehabilitator.  Does anyone know of her name and contact info?  She lived
near the University.  I'd like to know who to call for future reference
should an injured raptor show up here at the Arboretum.  Thanks!
