I was informed a few weeks ago about a Great Blue Heron rookery on Elk Fork 
Creek in Todd County. Since then, the land owners have been away on a trip and 
I just managed to renew contact yesterday and visit the farm early this 
morning. The land owner said that there were 9 nests in all, but could only 
confirm 3 active nests this year for sure. Alison and I approached the area on 
foot in company with the land owner. There was much croaking on our approach 
and we stopped and went no further after we spotted a nest high in a sycamore 
with two pretty much grown herons perched in the branches above the nest. I got 
some dim photos of the young'ens from the neck up but could not compose a shot 
that included a nest in the field of view.
