D. Boone Hut Trail, Red River Gorge, Powell Co., KY
2 Louisiana Waterthrushes feeding 2 fledglings.
The singing male Chestnut-sided Warbler was omnipresent in the same
territory near the Sky Bridge Picnic area as last year. We could only locate 1
Red-breasted Nuthatch at Rock Bridge, and could not find any at last year's
location at Parched Corn Creek. It was interesting to have the Swainson's
Warbler at the top of the ridge again at the Sky Bridge area, as was the case
last
year as well. This ridge is loaded with rhododendrons and mountain laurels.
The Chestnut-sided spends most of it's time foraging at mid-level in the oaks
that are surrounded by the dense heath understory.
