I did the Zilpo bbc driving route at Cave Run Friday and as usual it was great!
I had over 40 species with the highlight being a Cerulean Warbler low enough
to get an amazing look. He was singing like crazy and foraging, yet close
enough to see the necklace and all the colors. I had Cerulean's on many of the
stops. American Redstarts were at 6 of my stops. I've had them on a couple
before, but never this many. Many of the warblers we singing, Worm, Hooded,
Black and White, Kentucky, Oven, Yellow-rumped, Louisiana Waterthrush, Pine,
both the Tangers, and Wood Thrush.
If anyone is looking for a good place to hear Cerulean's, I suggest going to
Zilpo Campground at Cave Run Lake. The Campground has very diverse habitat.
Drive the Scenic Byway, take the gravel road that loops back into the byway
then down to Leatherwood Boat Ramp. A great place to bird!
