Alison and I visited Mark Bennett today. He is at the Stallworth Re-hab clinic, 
a part of the Vanderbilt University Hospital complex. This is the first time I 
have seen him since his wreck, so it's hard for me to rate his rate of 
improvement.
  I can say that  he can now stand under his own power and get about with 
little help other than to have someone spot for him in case he loses his 
balance. He is having some memory problems. I tried to take advantage of his 
memory loss by reminding him to remember to pull the Democratic lever the next 
time he went in to vote, but he remembered that he was a Republican (Drat!). 
  He said it was okay if I wanted to insult Brainard for him, but not to use 
any expletives on list, so the old Mark is returning, not quite there yet, but 
coming along.
  He is going to be at the Re-hab clinic for a while yet and visits are helpful 
in reconstructing the gaps in his memory.
