[birdky] RPT: Taylor County BBS results

Got out for my first Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) route of the season
yesterday morning, June 5th. I have been running this one since 1978, and it
is like visiting an old friend once a year at this point. It runs across
northern Taylor County. The route yielded 73 species yesterday, plus Green
Heron, Red-shouldered Hawk, and Red-tailed Hawk in between stops and both
Whip-poor-will and Chuck-will's-widow on my way down. Highlights included
two route firsts ... a hen Wild Turkey with a brood of poults in tow on the
road at one stop (I've heard a gobbler or two on each survey the past
several years) and a Willow Flycatcher. Also of interest were a Tree
Swallow, an above-average number of Dickcissels and one Henslow's Sparrow. I
have gotten a Bewick's Wren on this route once every few years ... but none
again this year :o(
