[birdky] Birding in Ecuador

My wife and I just returned from a ten-day predominantly birding excursion to
Ecuador. About half the time was spent in the Andes (Bellavista & Mindo) and
about half in the Amazon-Rio Napo rainforest (LaSelva Lodge) plus Quito and
Otovalo. We managed to see a cock-of-the rock lek (about 15 males spectacularly
displaying and screaming like stuck pigs) near Mindo and parakeet and parrot
licks in the rainforest. We did not go with a tour but hired local guides
through the LaSelva lodge office. Ecuador is lovely, and we managed about 180
species in the 6 days devoted primarily to birding. If anyone is contemplating
a trip to Ecuador and would like whatever info I can supply, they can email me
at hamm@xxxxxxxxxx
