Les and I observed some interesting interaction among 2 BROAD-TAILED
HAWKS, 1 RED-TAILED HAWK, and some CROWS this morning during our walk
along the Tug River. First we noticed a BROAD-WINGED diving sharply into
the top of a large tree which rose above the other trees.  Then some
CROWS did the same thing. At first we thought that the BROAD-WINGED
HAWKS and the CROWS were charging each other, but soon realized that
they were after a common foe. After much scrutiny we saw a third, and
larger, party dodging the attackers in the treetop. We noted some
preliminary field marks and thought that it might be a RED-TAILED HAWK.
It eventually flew from the treetop and we made a positive ID. We
thought perhaps it had stolen a baby from the others, but couldn't see
anything in its claws or beak. But, it was interesting! Obviously the
BROAD-WINGED HAWKS were a pair and perhaps were nesting nearby.
