Despite the rainy and humid weather, Les and I braved the elements and
went to the top of a mountain ridge several miles away to pick wild
black raspberries. The location is extremely remote, even for this area.
We traveled for quite a distance on the very backbone of the ridge to
reach our preferred "berry patch". En route we were delighted to hear
and see several CERULEAN WARBLERS. Even though we also have them nearby
the house, it is wonderful to know that they are still breeding on the
ridge. We also have seen/heard them in past years in the same area.
Among 30+ birds seen/heard: BLACK AND WHITE WARBLER, AMERICAN REDSTART,
BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, WHITE-EYED VIREO,
OVENBIRD, INDIGO BUNTING, etc.
 
Oh, BTW, we picked a gallon or so of berries. I made a fresh raspberry
pie, similar to a fresh strawberry pie except the glaze is made from the
berries also. Wow! I think that I will post this e-mail and have a piece
right now!
