When I was at the Scissor-tail nest on Tuesday, an employee with Vulcan
Materials (the company that owns the big quarry) stopped in and inquired
about the birds.  He was very interested and asked if anyone got nice photos
of the birds and/or the young in the nest, that he would appreciate having
copies (hard or digital).  They are responsible for the bison viewing area
up the road and another wildlife area on the west side of KY 453 down the
road by the BP station/Miss Scarlett's.  They are always interested in
wildlife-type PR projects, etc.

So if anyone gets anything they wouldn't mind Vulcan using in some sort of
PR materials, you can send them to:

On another note . . . Mark Monroe noted the birds feeding cicadas to the
young, and although we did not get to see cicadas actually being fed, the
male repeatedly went way over to the woods west of KY 453 to find food and
was perching in the trees there, I bet looking for late cicadas.  The big
emergence is over, but there are likely still some females alive and laying
eggs.  One has to wonder if the large emergence of cicadas in the area this
spring is in some way responsible for the presence of the birds there???
