An additional update to the Scissor-tailed Flycatchers
in Livingston County.
Monday afternoon Mark Vukovich, Hap Chambers, Mark
Bennett and I watched the pair of scissor-taileds
feeding cicadas and other insects to their young
(these young are very far along, so don't wait too
long to go see these if you are planning on it). At
one point, we had a second male scissor-tailed
flycatcher land on the wire 75 feet south of the nest
(BOTH parents were at the nest at this point and
chased the intruder away, making a minimum of 3 adults
in sight at once). It is quite possible that there may
be another nest in the area.
