Hello Birders,
Yesterday May 12 in the late afternoon to early evening at Windsor Lakes
subdivision community (Metro Louisville, zip code 40213) we saw an unusual
goose, that appeared to be romantically paired with one canada goose, that
was with two other canada geese.
We've attached only our best photo, but also have additional photos and
videos available to share.
We think this bird is a greater white-fronted goose (Anser albifrons) with
juvenile plummage and adult beak color, and that this species is hybridizing
with the canada goose species. However, we are not experienced enough with
water fowl identification to be sure of its identification, so please look
at our photo and let us know what species this bird is. The bird is not
banded.
Does anyone have any ideas about where this bird may have come from, and why
it may not be in its typical geographic region?
Thanks,
Christina & Jeremy
