Goodness this has been the best season I've had in years! I figured with the beautiful weather yesterday that all the birds would have passed on but maybe the wind patterns weren't right. A trip to Floyds Fork Park, where I hadn't been in 9 years, proved a successful one.

05/05 4:00-7:20 pm
List:
Black Vulture
Yellow-bl. Cuckoo
Barred Owl- calling at about 6:30 in woods to the right of the entrance
Pileated Woodpecker
Great-cr. Flycatcher
Eastern Kingbird
Warbling Vireo
No. Parula- singing probably resident
Yellow Warbler
Magnolia Warbler
Yellow-thr. Warbler- singing almost definitely a resident
Palm Warbler
Blackpoll Warbler- well over a dozen. about 6 in one tree, numbers like the ones I used to see migrating when I was younger
Black-and-White Warbler
American Redstart
Louisiana Waterthrush- I believe carrying nesting material
Common Yellowthroat
Yellow-br. Chat
Summer Tanager
White-thr. Sparrow- still around
both orioles
I wanted to spend more time looking for brush loving birds but seeing as I left the lights on and the car battery died I took it as an omen that I should just get a jump and leave before any other mishaps occured. However, I had forgotten how extensive that habitat was. I definitely want to go back and see what is there. I can see why there was a Clay-colored Sparrow discovered there last fall.

Good Birding,
Michael Autin
