I could barely keep the seed feeders filled this weekend. We had 30 to 40 rose
breasted grosbeaks constantly at the feeders or in line to eat next. Friday I
realized we had not only adult males and females, but young males still getting
into their formal wear - lots of them had brown feathers on their backs and
brown steaking on their breast. We had two indigo buntings eating at the same
time, and the cat bird couple were back. We saw the thrashers several times
and the mockingbird regularly visited the fruit feeder. We heard the wood
thrush regularly as well as the newly arrived great crested flycatcher. The
regular crew of titmice and chicakdees, house finches , red winged blackbirds,
sparrows, hummingbirds, a pair of downy woodpeckers and a very loud red bellied
who seemed to come just for the corn I put out for the squirrels. But last
night and this morning, the absolute stunning best was a baltimore oriole, one
last night and two eating the oranges this morning. I have a fuzzy proof
picture ot the two at the oranges, and a slightly better photo of one at the
hummingbird feeder. I have been putting out oranges for years, but this was
the first time the orioles ever accepted my hospitality. Internal Virus Database is out-of-date.
