[birdky] A grosbeak of a different color

I've been seeing all the posts about rose-breasted grosbeaks, and I thought I'd
share some observations about the blue grosbeaks that I'm doing my master's
thesis project on. I've been seeing a lot of them out at the Central Kentucky
Wildlife Management Area and the Bluegrass Army Depot, but strangely, most of
them aren't singing. (My project is on song.) I found one singing bird today
but during the 20 minutes that I watched him, he stopped singing twice to
forage for food. Blue grosbeaks would normally be singing their little hearts
out by now, so it seems like the food situation might indeed be pretty bad.

  Cheers,
