Eastern Ky Bird Club will be visiting the South Shore WMA wetlands this
Saturday at 10:00 am to document shorebirds. Plenty of other birds will
be present as well. We may see some wood duck broods and mallard
broods. South Shore WMA is located about 1 mile south of the town of
South Shore off Route 23. The WMA is sandwiched between Route 23 and
the Ohio River, so if you are traveling north, the gravel road access is
on the right. If traveling south on 23, you would turn left. The
access road is adjacent to J & D Motors on the east side of 23 (green
and white sign on building). A Subway Restaurant is on the west side of
Rt 23 directly across from the access road. MarkWest Chemical company
is just south of the access road on the east side of the Hwy. Follow
the gravel access road over the railroad tracks and back to the parking
area. I will be there at 10:00 am. Please bring spotting scopes.
