Got an email from Bobby Lloyd, host of this winter's Harris's Sparrow in
Daviess County that some of us enjoyed seeing ... the bird lingered in his yard
until the late date of May 6th!
The Hart County Spotted Towhee apparently lingered to about April 24th.
Also got an email from Stephen Stedman noting some decent shorebirds at Minor
Clark Fish Hatchery last week including Short-billed Dowitchers. Might be worth
some more visits by others.
On Saturday, I was able to get out for a few minutes between chores on the
family farm in eastern Jefferson County. Mark Monroe came by to band my female
kestrel and he pointed out a mature Bald Eagle heading north ... a long-overdue
"first" for our farm! Also present on the farm were a singing Sedge Wren and a
female Bobolink.
On Sunday, I was rewarded during spring gutter cleaning by hearing a
Black-billed Cuckoo calling in the yard. Quite a few warblers, including a
Wilson's and a Cape May, were singing a bit despite the dreary conditions.
