May 4, 2006 Press Release - For Immediate Release

  Kentucky Bluebird Society Annual Meeting

The Kentucky Bluebird Society (KBS) invites members and the public to join us
for our annual spring meeting on Saturday, May 27, 2006. The event is
co-sponsored by KBS and Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park (KDVSRP) located
at Gilbertsville, Kentucky near Kentucky Dam.

The meeting will begin at the KDVSRP Main Lodge Meeting Room near the front
lobby. The meeting will begin at 1 pm with indoor sessions featuring bluebird
presentations and the Carolina wren by special guest experts. The KBS Outdoor
Classroom Enrichment Program for Kentucky schools will also be featured
including teachers and students that wish to present short summaries of their
school projects. Come see the KY Association of Environmental Education Award
presented to KBS last year for this program! A raffle and door prize drawing
will be available for a KBS live cam box and other bluebird items. Outdoor
activities will begin at about 4 pm with a short hike along a new KDVSRP/KBS
bluebird trail to check new boxes and likely observe bluebird residents. A
special surprise field trip without hiking will also be available that you will
not want to miss!

The public is invited to join KBS to celebrate Kentucky bluebirds and
discover how to help and enjoy an outstanding wildlife species. There is no
charge for attending the May 27 Bluebird Special Event program.
KBS provides up to five free bluebird boxes to all Kentucky schools wishing
to assist bluebirds in their school studies. The Kentucky Ornithological
Society (KOS) accepts applications for funding any activity that enhances the
understanding of birds by young people. A KBS live cam box, which brings
outside bird nesting activities into the classroom, is an example of a project
that will be strongly considered by KOS. Visit
http://www.biology.eku.edu/kybluebirds.html for more information including a
link to the KOS web site for grant details. Select the Anne Stamm Avian
Education Fund at the KOS web site for a possible school bluebird live cam
grant or other potential bird study project involving students.
