[birdky] BKY: Beckham Bird Club Birdathon
- From: Beckhambc@xxxxxxx
- To: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
- Date: Wed, 3 May 2006 13:28:13 EDT
This month the Beckham Bird Club will have its 2006 Birdathon. The club has
requests from many different organizations for funds. See below the different
projects that we will be supporting this year.
Again we are asking for your support. Please let us know if you will sponsor
us as we try to raise money for these projects
No pledge is too small or too large. You may give a set amount or an amount
per species found. Hopefully we will get our 100+ species this year.
After the birdathon you will receive an email that will describe our day of
birding and tell you where to send your check. Remember all donations are tax
deductible.
If you have any questions please let us know.
Thank you for your support!
Jane Bell and Pat Bell
Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission - Funds will assist with the
acquisition of a perpetual conservation easement on approximately 40 acres in
northeastern Christian County that includes a significant bat cave that
provides
habitat for three endangered species of bats. The acreage also provides
habitat
for forest-dwelling songbirds including the Cerulean warbler.
Kentucky Natural Lands Trust - Funds will go to the Pine Mountain Legacy
Project to pay costs of land acquisition. The KNLT is trying to connect
protected
forests to form a migratory corridor from Virginia to Tennessee. The specific
request this year is for costs associated with the acquisition of the Howard
Property in Bell County.
Kentucky Resources Council - Funds will be used to support the KRC's on-going
conservation efforts including advocacy, lobbying, and public education on
environmental issues.
Raptor Rehabilitation of Kentucky - Funds will sponsor six raptor education
programs at six schools reaching approximately 900 students in Kentucky public
schools.
Louisville Nature Center - Funds will be used to pay for field trips to the
Nature Center for 120 students from underserved and underfunded schools in
Louisville. Students will learn about bird identification and the importance
of
habitat.
Operation Migration - Funds will help with costs including gasoline for the
team that guides migrating Whooping Cranes from their summer breeding grounds
in Wisconsin to the preserve in Florida where they spend the winter.
