The Kentucky Bird Line, the phone line for reporting "rare bird sightings"
has been terminated.  
 
This termination was approved by the KOS Board after comparing use of the
line to the cost.  
 
In recent years, calls to the line have gradually reduced to a mere trickle
as the internet has replaced phone tapes as the preferred method of
distributing records of bird observations.
 
With a certain degree of sadness, I officially announce that the Kentucky
Bird Line Ceased operation yesterday 01/05/2006.
 
The Society wishes to thank Jane and Pat Bell who have monitored the KBL for
the past several years and Scott Marsh who are produced summaries for many
years as well.  It is possible that a summary of observations from BIRDKY
and other sources will continue to be compiled and sent to BIRDCNTR.   This
issue remains to be resolved.
