[birdky] HOODED MERGANSER BROOD AT BALLARD
- From: "Scott & Glenda Record" <sgrecord@xxxxxxxx>

Took the kids for a late afternoon drive through Ballard WMA. The biggest
highlight was a brood of six recently hatched hooded mergs swimming with the
hen in a slough off Humphrey's creek Also had 2 dickcissels and 2 common
nighthawks at Mitchell lake.
Shorebird habitat is fairly good with numerous locations of small pools along
the river. Lower beaver dam slough and the flooded field to the east as well
as happy hollow and burnt slough had several shorebirds. Most appeared to be
yel legs and solitarys but I didn't look closely at all and the afternoon light
is terrible. Also, 3 year olds have no patience. I plan to go over it with a
fine tooth comb Wed morning.
