Lack of substantial rainfall has resulted in the
transient lakes in southern Warren County drying up
for the most part.  With the exception of the ditch
and a few puddles, McElroy was gone on the 11th, and
Walton's Pond will likely disappear tomorrow.  The mud
and puddles has continued to host a fair number of
birds with the following species being observed this
week.

Semipalmated Plover
Killdeer
Greater Yellowlegs
Lesser Yellowlegs
Solitary Sandpiper
Spotted Sandpiper
Semipalmated Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
White-rumped Sandpiper
Pectoral Sandpiper
Dunlin
Stilt Sandpiper
Short-billed Dowitcher
Long-billed Dowitcher
Wilson's Snipe

Four Long-billed Dowitchers at Walton's Pond on the
9th were the last observed.  A nice flight of
Short-billed Dowitchers occurred on the 11th with a
total of at least 60 being present at Meng's,
Walton's, and McElroy.  I did not see or hear a single
Long-billed with these birds.  Least Sandpipers
continue to outnumber Semipalmated, but the gap is
closing daily.  The number of White-rumped Sandpipers
remains low as of yet with only 4 being present today
at Walton's.  A week's high of 6 Stilt Sandpipers was
also present there today where I spent 4 hours
standing motionless in the water and mud studying and
photographing shorebirds.   

The passerine highlight of the week was a singing
Connecticut Warbler in my yard on May 9.
