We had an outstanding day yesterday while tallying 112 species, a new count 
record for Hart County. New species for our spring count included lesser 
yellowlegs, semipalmated plover, and cattle egrets.Other highlights included a 
flock of 22 bobolinks in a mowed field, a low-flying broad-winged hawk carrying 
a snake in his talons, and 7 prothonotary warblers on the headwaters of Nolin 
Lake. Other interesting sightings included 3 owl species, chuck-will's widow, 
solitary and spotted sandpipers, numerous orioles of both species, blue and 
rose-breasted grosbeaks, northern waterthrush, along with all the expected 
summer residents. Our only "big miss" were the red-headed woodpeckers who 
weren't found in their home of over twenty-five years. We arrived late in the 
day and saw no sign of them.
