This message got jammed up somewhere for a couple of days . . .
Mark Monroe and I were engaged in a survey at Mammoth Cave National Park
today and were able to tally 27 spp of warblers including the following
highlights: male Mourning, multiple Bay-breasted, Cape May, Blackburnian,
Chestnut-sided, Nashville, Blackpoll, Black-throated Green, and Palm along
with regular nesters. We also had a Least Flycatcher, Rose-breasted
Grosbeaks, and a couple of Ruby-crowned Kinglets among other commoner
migrants.
In the afternoon, we ran by McElroy Lake, Meng's Pond and Walton's Pond in
Warren County and had 12 spp of shorebirds and misc highlights including at
McElroy -- 2 (male and female) Wilson's Phalaropes, a Dunlin, 2 (pair?)
Black-bellied Plovers, a mixed-species flock of about 30 Short-billed and
Long-billed Dowitchers, and an adult Peregrine Falcon; at Meng's -- a Great
Egret and 2 Wilson's Snipe, and at Walton's -- another pair of Wilson's
Phalaropes and a drake Green-winged Teal.
