[birdky] Cattle Egret, Tree Swallows, Re:birdbath

A Cattle Egret joined me briefly while I was cutting hay this morning. It stood
its ground as I passed within 3 swaths of it. Then after I passed it decided to
quit the field.
A tiny, short-tailed brown bird flushed repeatedly during the last couple of
swaths. It kept flying a short distance and going back into the unmowed swath.
I think it was a Sedge Wren but am not sure.
Checking my boxes, I found that 3 are currently occupied by Tree Swallows. One
had 6 white eggs. This is the first year I have had more than one Tree Swallow
nest and have only in recent years had Tree Swallows at all.
The birdbath question may not have been intended for the list but I'm
responding anyway. I have 3 untreated concrete birdbaths, which I keep filled
year round. Two of them are decades old and have never cracked, though all have
had water frozen solid in them many times. The key, I think, is in the design
of the bird bath rather than whether or not its treated. A shallow, gently
tapered bowl with no lip on the edge gives nothing for expanding ice to push
against.
