In this mornings post, I forgot to mention a Black-billed Cuckoo was calling
on the eastern road on the refuge at Long Point. It was seen briefly in a
Catalpa Tree. The snowy white Catalpa blooms were falling in the bayou,
drifting in small rafts and catching on snags. They were a beautiful sight in
the dark shadows. I could not resist stopping and trying to get a few shots,
and then the cuckoo started calling. They are always a delight to find but
this setting was exceptional.
Other warblers found along this road Sunday morning were: Parula, Yellow,
Magnolia, Cape May, Black-throated Green, Yellow-throated, Redstart,
Prothonotary, Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat, and Kentucky. With my new ears,
I also heard my first Goldfinches ever in full song and appropriately
surrounded by bright yellow Butterweed.
Good Birding!!!
