[birdky] whooping cranes

Kuttawa heronry has been graced by the presence of four whooping cranes. At
6:05 p.m. they were heard bugling, flew over from the north, circled briefly
and landed in the trees just to the right of the middle of the island (looking
from the north). They were much larger than great blue herons, had the darkish
wingtips and solid white backs, and very long very black legs and feet. Also
seen in the course of the day were a female blackpoll warbler in a white oak in
our front yard, a great egret in a field near Barkley Dam, and a snowy egret at
a farm pond on Dulaney Loop road in Caldwell County. Heard first yellow-billed
cuckoo today as well.
Perhaps the cranes will be there tomorrow - they looked like they were
settling in for the evening. Hope others can see them.
Good birding:>)
