At a wet-weather pond (DeLorme p. 60, sec. G5) this morning at 9:30 and again
at 10:15 there
were 40 American Avocets, along with two Lesser Yellowlegs and three Solitary
Sandpipers.
The Avocets were still there at 7:20 p.m. but had flown by 7:45. Other of
interest sighted: one
scissortail flycatcher in Marshall Co. (I-24/282 overpass, Gilbertsville road),
Eastern Barred Owl
at 6:45 p.m. on Hwy. #93 at Port Authority Road, a pair of C. geese with nine
fluffy goslings, and one chubby groundhog! Also heard Chuck-will's widows at
our new place (p. 60, G4) and wood
thrushes.
Good birding to all.
