[birdky] BKY: RPT -- Periodic cicadas in LBL

I forgot to mention with my post from the previous weekend that there is a
pretty impressive emergence of periodic cicadas in Land Between the Lakes
(at least the northern portion). These are the "17 year cicadas" that are
black and orange with bright red eyes. It seems that just about every year
there is an emergence of these creatures in at least a small part of KY.
The morning hum of thousands of them is rather impressive. A
Yellow-breasted Chat was observed snatching one from the leaf of a large
weed on a woods edge, and I suppose they will be a big food item for many
larger sonbirds. This type of cicada emerges in early to mid-May and peaks
in mid-May, being essentially gone by mid-June. Has anyone heard them
outside of LBL??
