Brief late-afternoon visit May 11 to Big Black Mountain on the
Kentucky/Virginia border (near Lynch, KY) produced blackburnian,
black-throated blue, chestnut-sided, Canada, cerulean warblers. Least
flycatchers, dark-eyed junco, veery, and blue-headed vireo.
Observed at Caperton Swamp in Louisville (River Road just east of Cox Park)
this morning (May 14). 14 species of warblers (with estimated number if more
than one seen): magnolia 9, com. yellowthroat 6, Wilson's 6, prothonotary 3,
Am. redstart 3, Canada 3, mourning 2 (great look at a singing male), yellow,
Tennessee, blackpoll, Nashville, n. waterthrush, chestnut-sided,
black-and-white. Also: Philadelphia vireo, 7 Empids (one definite least, by
call), Lincoln's sparrow 2.
