While at my Dad's house on KY 504, I kept hearing what sounded like an oriole.
We have a pair of Mockingbirds that does not have song of their own. They have
a list of songs they sing over, and over, and over all day and sometimes all
night. It starts with a perfect Phoebe, then the cardinal, next titmouse,
chat, white-eye vireo and so on and on. You don't need a tape to practice for
spring. When I heard the oriole, I thought it was our resident songster
because it sounded off, a bit. I finally found a second year oriole, and it
was singing a off key. It was still mostly yellow, with the black around the
head. A first for the year. Also seen and heard Scarlet Tananger, Ovenbird,
Wood Thrush, Hooded, Red-Eye Vireo and Yellow-throated vireo. I still have
white-throated Sparrows singing, a lone junco and a few purple finches. Saw
the Pine sikins also.
Happy Birding
