Just spent a week of birding in Trinidad and Tobago at the Asa Wright
Nature Lodge in Trinidad and the Cuffie River Inn in Tobago (both
located in montane rainforests). Asa Wright has a verandah where you can
watch lots of species of honeycreepers, hummers, woodpeckers, etc. A
white-bearded manakin lek, where a dozen or so males were displaying and
wing-popping in hopes of attracting a female, can be found a few hundred
yards away. Common potoo, scarlet ibis, oilbirds are accessible.
Blue-crowned motmots and rufous-tailed jacamars are very common at
Cuffie. Anyone who would like specific info about either place can
e-mail me at hamm@xxxxxxxxxx
