I heard a Mockingbird imitating a Chuck-will's-widow a couple of days ago. This 
used to be a routine part of their songbook years ago, along with guinea fowl 
and other now absent neighborhood sounds. A Chuck-will's-widow must have at 
least passed through here lately for the Mockingbird to be imitating it, so 
this should count as a sighting, once removed.
  Yesterday, there were 2 Killdeer chicks walking along in the road about a 
mile from home. The only nearby water was a mud puddle in a long driveway 
turning off the road at that spot. The vegetation on both sides of the road for 
some distance was soy bean stubble, soon no doubt, to be planted in corn. Lucky 
the Killdeer were early nesters. Now if they just lead the babies off the 
road.....
