An early morning kayak around Taylor Bay (Barkley Lake) revealed birds
of note. I enjoy kayak viewing because you don't have to mess with the
scope, and if you are alone and very quiet, you can see and hear them much
closer.
BC Night Heron 2
Caspian Terns 2
White-eyed Vireos
Red-eyed Vireo (heard one)
Horned Grebe (what a red eye and streak! at first I thought it was bleeding)
Lousianna Waterthrush
Prothonotary Warblers
Yellow-throated Warblers
American White Pelicans (8) floating in the back of the bay
Two Rough Wing Swallows were bringing twigs into a hole in the bank of the
lake. How much chance do they have of producing offspring before the lake
rises??
Returning to my cabin on Jonathan Creek (Ky Lake) I found Warbling Vireo
and Orchard Oriole singing. A male RT hummer was still present at the
feeder.
Returning home to Murray I heard the ubiquitous House Wren calling for the
first time in my back yard. This bird is my nemesis. I can only hope
that the Almighty has some plan for this bird.
