[birdky] hart co bird report

janet and i took our morning walk around our 50 acres today. down by the
creek we saw a pair of wood ducks flying from tree to tree among the sycamores.
i assume they were looking for nest cavities. they were a good 40 or 50 feet up
in the trees and seemed in no hurry. they would walk along the main limbs of
one tree before flying 20 or 30 feet to try again.
our purple finch population is building. most years we have a peak
population of 30 + birds at the feeder. last year was a bust and this year it's
been more like 6 or 8 birds. today i counted 14 males, along with 7 or 8
females/1st year males. these non-red individuals are hard to count accurately,
being moving targets among sparrows, goldfinches, etc.
get out and enjoy it.
