Many of you know Kentucky birder Lester Doyle, but may
not be aware of the fact that Lester is
internationally known for his DNA/Genetics work with
pigs.

Last June, a feral pig was killed in southern Georgia
that has become a legend named "Hogzilla" . This pig
was claimed to be 12 feet long and weighed in at 1000
pounds. You can find photos of Hogzilla on the
internet. National Geographic became aware of the
story and incorporated it into a TV program that they
were planning on feral and wild hogs (it has actually
become the central theme). NG's goal was to exhume
this monster and verify its size and attempt to
determine its origin (wild, domestic, or feral).

Due to Lester's reputation and expertise in DNA
testing, as well as his strong stomach and interest in
the bazaar, Lester was invited to join the National
Geographic Team to research Hogzilla.

Last November, five months after the pig was buried,
Lester and another biologist along with the NG film
crew dug the pig up, took measurements, and did DNA
testing on the recovered tissue samples. The process
and results (along with Lester) can be seen on the
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL in a show entitled
"HOGZILLA", and is part of the Explorer series.

The show will air at 7 and 10 pm CST on Sunday March
20, and Wednesday March 23, and Saturday March 26 at 6
pm CST.

Lester will likely win the Nobel Prize for Molecular
Biology after his outstanding work with Hogzilla.
