Congratulations to Jackie, and also to Bob Staib of Lexington, who are
apparently going to be the first Kentucky hummingbird hosts to successfully
overwinter Rufous Hummingbirds in Kentucky. Jackie's bird, everyone may
recall, was banded back in the fall confirming it to be a Rufous. The
Staib's bird has not been banded, but excellent photos that Bob has taken
daily to chronicle its stay strongly suggest to be a Rufous (see
http://home.insightbb.com/~bstaib1/wsb/html/view.cgi-photos.html-.html).

Previous to this, the latest that any of Kentucky's approximately 30
Selasphorus hummers had been documented to make it in Kentucky was February
5th in 1988, a bird that was present in eastern Jefferson County.
