[birdky] Woodcock sounds

2 days ago we walked over to the nearby brushy corner to look for the Woodcock.
We flushed it several times, but again could never spot it on the ground. At
about dusk it began making its Nighthawk-like peent sound. Soon we realized
that there were at least two different locations to the peent sound. When we
got home I heard a peent sound apparently coming fom the back yard. Either one
followed us home or there was a 3rd bird.
Yesterday I stayed out in the back yard after dark and began hearing the
peent sound. I think it was coming from the freshly plowed tobacco ground,
which is just over the fence from the back yard. As I walked closer to the
source of the sound I could make out 3 different kinds of sound. The peent
sound, the twittery whistle sound they make when flushed, and a cadenced soft
whistly "fiet, fiet, fiet, fietyew".
