The only water left in McElroy Lake was in the ditch,
and the number of Sandhill Cranes present had dwindled
to 30 birds.  At least 6 Lapland Longspurs were
observed.

A Merlin was seen dive-bombing a Red-tail near the WKU
farm.  

The light-morph Harlan's Red-tail which is spending at
least his 3rd winter at the farm was still present. 
He seems to have struck up a relationship with one of
the resident females.  Although they seem to have
separate winter territories on the farm, I have seen
him spending time in her territory with her on a
number of occasions.  On Friday, I watched them soar
together for nearly 30 minutes, and he directed a few
show-off dives her way.  This is the latest in the
winter that I've seen him in the past 3 years.  Maybe
she'll convince him to spend the summer here instead
of Canada or Alaska, after all, he is quite a handsome
bird.

9 Purple Finches at my feeder

Adult male Purple Martin returned to the house we have
up at the Airport Fire Station in Bowling Green.  This
is the earliest I've recorded one in spring in
Kentucky.
