Aurora Ferry Rd., Petersburg, Boone County
Couldn't resist such a beautiful day. Drove to sloughs on AFR. 12 species of
Grebes & waterfowl, not great numbers but the smaller quantity allowed for
easier scoping and longer periods of checking each species.
2 Pied-billed Grebes; 5 Grn-w Teal; 1 Am Black Duck; 7 Mallard; 2 N Pintail
(been years since last seen on the sloughs); 2 Blue-w Teal; 6 N Shoveler; 7
Gadwall; 6 Am Wigeon; 2 Ring-nkd Duck; 2 Scaup; 2 Bufflehead; 1 T Vulture; 1 Am
Crow.
NO Canads's or Woodies! The north slough usually is home to 10-20 Wood Duck
most of the year.
As I was leaving, 27 birds in "V" formation, about 500 feet high, were flying
N-NE up river at about 4:30. I didn't hear any calls and they were too far for
IDing with binocs - Sandhills I wonder?
