Amy and I looked at the transient lakes near Woodburn today. On our way
down from Louisville, we had a flock of 150 cranes bugling north over Hart
Co.  McElroy Lake hosted 15 spp of waterfowl with Canadas being the only
goose sp.; six divers included numerous Ring-necks, Canvasbacks and
Redheads, with a few Ruddys and single pairs of Lesser Scaup and
Bufflehead.  Dabblers included numerous Mallards, 35-50 No Pintail, some No
Shovelers, a few Am Blacks and Green-wg Teal, maybe 50+ Am Wigeon, with
half as many Gadwall, and at least one Wood Duck.  Also present were at
least one Pied-billed Grebe and one Horned Grebe. About 30 Sandhill Cranes
were feeding along the NW side and then flew over W of KY 884 and lingered
into the afternoon.  Shorebirds included 50-75 Pectorals and an early Least
Spiper.  At least 8 Ring-billed Gulls came in for a rest. Horned Larks and
American Pipits were scattered about the fields.

Chaney Lake had many less waterfowl, but a few more Lesser Scaup than at
McElroy.

Walton's Pond had a flotilla of Ring-necks and Redheads, with a few
Canvasbacks and 15-20 Common Snipe.
