A brief look at the waterfowl present on the Great Egret Wetland at
Yatesville Lake WMA revealed pintails, mallards, black ducks,
blue-winged teal and wood ducks.  A few buffleheads were present on one
of the ponds separate from the wetland.  Beaver have constructed a new
lodge on the pond up the hollow from the wetland.  Otter scat is present
around the perimeter of the wetland.  Blaine Creek flooded over the
levee and deposited plenty of fish again for the second year in a row.
The resident pair of eagles can be seen foraging for fish in the
wetlands as the water recedes (at least in years past) even though the
nest is about 4 to 6 miles away.  The Yatesville eagles were incubating
as of Jan. 28.
