[birdky] KY & Barkley Lake

Roly Lloyd and Mary Walter made the trip to the lakes for some sought after
and unexpected surprises. The lakes have been lowered and the gates are
open. This always makes for interesting gull watching. At Barkley Dam we
had great looks at an Adult Thayer's Gull. American White Pelicans,
Canvasbacks, Red-breasted mergansers, Goldeneye, Lesser Scaup and Ruddy Duck,
snow geese and Bald Eagle were spotted on Barkley Lake.
The draw of the exposed mud flats took us to Jonathan Creek and Blood River
where our highlights were:
Pectoral Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
Forster's Tern
Tundra Swan (2 @BR)
It was cold and damp all day but it didn't damper the spirits of the
Austrialian birder (Roly). He added a few birds to his KY list and Mary
added two life birds. It was a good weekend to visit West KY.
