Some may be interested in seeing a family group of Trumpeter Swans that
has been present in rural Ballard County for awhile. They are on a
private farm pond. There are either 4 or 5 including an adult bird with
a red neck collar (revealing its origin in Iowa in 2004 and having spent
much time in subsequent years (including breeding) in Illinois).
To get to the birds follow these directions courtesy of the Ballard
W.M.A. staff (thanks Charlie & Gerald):
They are at the intersection of Oldham Lane and Edwards Rd. just outside
of Barlow. Going south on US 60 from Barlow, take a right onto Oldham
Rd.; just past Edwards Rd on left, a yellow vinyl sided house on left
(Jamie Bray); they are on pond in his backyard Anyone visiting should
respect the landowner's private property and not trespass, but that
shouldn't be a problem since they are so visible from the road.
