Barry Hart and I ran a survey of the mud flats at Blood River and Jonathan
Creek today. The lake levels are reaching winter pool but there is still more
water than normal. I missed the best bird of the day when I decided it was
too cold to play on the mud flat.
Highlights of the day were:
Bald Eagle on the nest at BR
Least Sandpiper - 31-BR (38 at JC seen by BH)
Western Sandpiper 1 at JC seen by BH
Wilson Snipe - 11 at BR
A large raft of Lesser and Greater Scaup was seen near Wildcat on Blood River
17 Canvasback ducks were also in this flock.
The three common species of gulls were represented with increased numbers of
Herring Gulls.
