This morning west of Midway on US 421 I saw the following on a two farm
ponds (among the geese and mallards). Everything else is frozen over,
so these two ponds have had a nice variety of birds the past couple of
days.
On the first pond (very small, don't understand how it hasn't frozen over):
Redhead 12
Northern Shoveler 2
On the second pond, the birds are all congregated in the middle while
most of the pond is frozen.
Redhead 10+
Canvasback (at least 2, maybe more)
Wood Duck 1
Greater Scaup?
American Coot 1
There was also a shorebird teetering around the edges of the ice that I
couldn't ID.
Stay warm,
Ian
