[birdky] Birds loving the snow

This past Sunday morning (I'm a little behind on posting my sightings) I went
out to Veteran's Park in Lexington. Fresh snow had covered the ground and the
Hickman was frozen solid and covered in snow; it was a snow creek. It was a
great day for birding. The birds were more active and and more numerous than
I'd seen them be before.
Highlights for me was a Brown Thrasher thrashing around in the snow on the
ground under some thin brush. Along side him was a "Yellow-shafted" Flicker
whose colors were beautiful against the whiteness. A nice flock of
Yellow-rumped warblers were active right in front of the old dam (on the
downstream side). They would light on the dam and scoot across it and one was
standing on the frozen creek, leg-deep in snow. I had not seen any of them
there since fall. I did take several pictures, although they are not a winter
anomaly. There were also Eastern Bluebirds filling the air with their sweet
calls all around, and decorating the snow scene with their brilliant blue. I
don't think Bluebirds have been at the park for a long time-- and Brown
Creepers were piping up left and right. I spotted a couple as well. Total I
think was 28 species noted.
Best birding wishes,
